[Solved] Printing mystery

Post by jannetta »

Hi All

I have been using OO for years now and it was one of the first things I installed on my computer. Something strange has happened though. The first signs that something might be wrong occurred a few days ago but I did realise it at the time. I created a document which I saved to pdf. When I looked at the pdf it was empty. I then used PDFCreator to create the pdf and it worked fine. However, today I wanted to print something from Writer to the printer and it just isn't printing. The printing dialog pops up fine but when I click OK, the little progress window just flashes up, disappears and nothing further happens. The PDFCreator trick doesn't work anymore either. The same now happens as with normal printing.

Everything else on my computer seems to print fine.

I went as far as first trying to run a repair and then I uninstalled and re-installed the whole of OpenOffice. No luck, the same thing is happening.

I'm using OpenOffice 2.3.1 and Windows XP.

If I need to provide any further information, please just ask. I'm desperate to get this working.

Thanks
Jannetta

Janetta,

You can try a few more things:
1. Try this: http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... work#p6105
2. Rename the folder C:\Documents and Settings\<your name>\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2 to .old and launch OOo. This will recreate your profile from default settings
3. Upgrade to OOo 2.4.

Hi squenson

Thanks for your comments. Following the discussion in the thread you suggested sorted the problem out, but this was after renaming the folder and upgrading to 2.4 (both of which didn't make it work on their own). I ended up creating a new document and that printed. I did try this before doing all the other things I have done since and it didn't work. So it might have been that some setting in the original version of Writer meant that all documents created would not print.

Anyway, it all sounds very confusing now, but the important thing is that I can print again.

Kind Regards
Jannetta
