Inserting JPGs
Inserting JPGs
Hi - Just starting with Writer - writing an eBook. I inserted some jpgs yesterday - looked okay - saved everything. Today I opened up the program and the jpgs were gone. A lot of my editing was gone as well - obviously didn't save. I cleaned up my computer, have a lot of space on it. Have 8 GB of RAM, 64 bit operating system. Any idea why this may be happening? Thanks.

What was your save format? .odt is best, but there are reports of illustrations going spontaneously missing even using that.

Yes - it's an .ODT text file. Wonder if it will impact the PDF conversion for the eBook - guess I should experiment with it before wasting a lot of time.

Do you think this is a good program for an eBook? I use OF for other documents. But this is my first try at an eBook.

Calibre will convert an odt file direct to many eBook formats. Are your JPGs inserted or linked?

Re: Inserting JPGs
It may be - and this is only my guess - that the loss of pictures/text can be caused by too quick a reopening of the file in process of being closed; for example, in circumstances where one closes the file, then remembers "Oh!, I should have inserted ... or said ..." and attempts to reopen the file immediately. I can imagine that Windows might become confused and reopen the file it knows about (the older file), not realising that an updated version is in the pipeline but not yet written to disk. As I say, this is only my guess. It might well be wrong.
