Explorer.exe crashes
Explorer.exe crashes
Hi people, decided to download OpenOffice today and install it and I am having problems when trying to open a new spreadsheet/drawing or presentation (tried them all).
I can open microsoft office files without errors but cannot possibly open a new document, my windows crash and everything becomes unresponsive. Cannot even print screen to capture the error code.
I am running windows 7 64bit however openoffice has been installed as a 86bit program.

Re: Explorer.exe crashes
Hi and welcome to the forum!
First make sure that there is no soffice.bin process in the task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). If so, kill them all.
Are you sure that there is no security application that prevents AOO from running?
Try to deactivate your firewall and antivirus.

Re: Explorer.exe crashes
Well as it turns out it creates the icon of the file, even if it crashes.
Once I try to open the file it just shows this : Whether I click yes or not the result is the same " File cannot be repaired" and then this tiny window pops up and I have no choice but to close the application.
When I try to open the "New OpenDocument Spreadsheet" I get a pop up where I have to select what I want to do but whichever I open always ends up showing weird symbols.
I have tried with antivirus & firewall disabled and the applications still crash.

Re: Explorer.exe crashes
Have you tried to open AOO first and then created the file from the File>New menu?

Have you tired resetting the user profile viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426. The other suggestion is to uninstall using Revo Uninstaller Free http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html with the most aggressive settings. Then re-install.

Everything works when I open AOO first and create a file either from the drop menu or the icons.Hagar Delest wrote:Have you tried to open AOO first and then created the file from the File>New menu?
Guess will do it like that .
I tried that but it explorer.exe still crashes every time I open a new file , so I'll follow Hagar Delests's suggestion since it's the only way I can create new files.thomasjk wrote:Have you tired resetting the user profile viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426. Re: Explorer.exe crashes
I think that there is a problem with your template when you invoke the new document by right click.
Try to create a new document in AOO and save it in the template location of your windows account. See the corner case #2 of this post (at bottom).
If still no change, perhaps there is a problem with your Windows configuration. Try to create another Windows user account and see if it works.

Re: Explorer.exe crashes
I have tried everything humanly possible but I have seen no changes. I forgot to mention that I cannot start the "writer" easily.
My windows configuration is fine.. I think I'll just uninstall completely and look for another program. Thanks for your time.

Did you verify that you downloaded from the official site? Did you verify that the downloaded file was not corrupt? Did you replace the template files which appear to be producing corrupt new files? How do you know there's no problem with your Windows configuration? Did you try using another user account? What do you mean by "easily"?
