[Solved] odt document won't retain password?

Post by billpann »

I'm running Office 4.0.0, Windows 7, and repeatedly accessing a large document (a diary) which I have saved with password protection. However the password only works a few times and then seems to be lost, leaving the file openable without it and unprotected. I assume I don't have to reset the password every time I close the amended file? How can I keep it reliably in place?

any help appreciated!

I created an odt document and saved it with a password. I tried opening it and resaving about 15 times and the password remained in effect. The standard response to fixing unexplained weirdness is to reset your user profile as explained in this tutorial.

Was the file created with a previous version of AOO? There have been some changes IIRC about encryption.
You can try to save the file without password and a different name first. Then close AOO, open again that new file and save it with a password.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.
