[Solved] RTF file crashes OOo

Post by strider22 »

I just upgraded to 2.3.1 in hope that it would handle the rtf files I get from my instructor.
Nope. I can send the document to anyone interested. It's an assignment.
The file will not load, even after going and making coffee, it is still hung.
That's not so bad but all the other open OOO documents are also frozen and killing the RTF windows kills them all.

This is on a windows machine. Opening word and saving as a .DOC file and opening that, lets me get back to OOO.

You can upload a file here - just add a message or edit your first and click the Upload attachment tab below the edit box. I have to say that OOo should not have problems with rtf files. On the other hand, I received a Word file recently from somebody who normally works with WordPerfect (yes, they're still around) and that files was all screwed up - I couldn't possibly open it in either Word or OOo, only Notepad worked. Meaning to say, other programs can go bang too. 8-)

Does opening the file in MS Word and saving it back to RTF, do you still have problems opening that in OO.o?

It looks like the file got saved with a *.txt extension by mistake. Change that to RTF and it opens OK.

7-Zip is better than ZIP for compressing many file types. It is especially good for plain text and html if you use PPMd compression. 24K as ZIP, 223K uncompressed as plain text.

I guess there have been some PM with the file and that it's fixed now. So I tag this thread as Solved and move it to the Writer section.

Please post again if there is still any issue.
