[Solved] AOO4 does not respond

Post by JOHN MORTON »

Using Windows 8, and previously 003. I installed 004, version 9702 a few days ago, and it seemed to work fine. Then there was a problem with images downloaded from the web disappearing, leaving only the URL. But before I could try your solutions, 004 itself stopped working. I have tried to un-install, but cannot. I get to a message that says 'exit from Open Office and Quickstart Open Office', but there are none open. This is followed by the message
''Fatal error in installation'. The wizard then stops. I tried to repair, but ended with this list of programmes that needed attention:
004 Process ID 6652
OO Calc Process ID 5072
OO Writer Process ID 2748
soffice.bin Process ID 456
I could get no further
I hope this info helps, as I am desperate to get my four years of files back. Incidentally I can no longer access my old MS Word files any more either

Press the three keys CTRL + SHIFT + ESC simultaneously to bring up the Task Manager. On the processes tab, sort the Image Name column by clicking on the header Image Name. Look for processes that start with soffice, click on them and then choose End Process. You will get a warning that you can ignore.
OpenOffice should now work without any need to uninstall.

:D I have been able to restore Open Office, and also the images in OO Writer which had disappeared leaving only the URL - the cause of the problems was malware which HP Support has removed. The problems came mostly from an unintentional down-load of the Delta toolbar. My HP advisor said this brings with it unwanted stuff which can mess your programmes about. Also 'Free games' are he said a vehicle for undesirables getting into your computer. Thank you for your advice, anyway. Hope this may help others

On the Forum, from long experience, we only advise downloading from www.openoffice.org (or as automatically redirected by its loadsharing). This can easily be reached by clicking on the OpenOffice logo at bottom right of Forum screens. Files originating from that source have no hasty add-ons.
