Open office Upgrade

Post by Gleader »

When I download the newest version I get an error code that says that I need a disk to remove the older version. and now I can't use any short cut and can't open any programs that were created by excel.

Your old installation may be looking for where you loaded your previous version from to aid in the removal. Try renaming \Documents and settings\<user>\Application data\OpenOffice.org2 to something like OpenOffice.org2-OLD and then try a reinstall of the 2.3.1. These are the user settings and they should be recreated upon the first use of the new version.

I don't know how to rename the program. I tried to remove Open office 2.0 from the control panel but it says that I can't remove or change it with out a CD I did not load it with a CD. How do I get it off my computer so I can load 2.3

The information to uninistall the old version has been deleted or corrupted. Reinstall the old version first to restore the needed information.

Go to My Computer
Double Click on the C drive (it may have a more complete name)
Double Click on Documents and Settings
Double Click on the user name you normally use (if not sure, try what you find, use some common sense)
Double Click on Application data
Right Click on OpenOffice.org2
Select Rename
Click at the end of the name and add -OLD or something like that.
