Hi
(NB! I am using the Danish OpenOffice 3.4.1 on windows 7, 64-bit, so the words in quotation marks are my translations from Danish! The file extension is .ods.)
I have created a graph, but now I cannot find a way to edit what data series to show on the graph. It is an XY-graph.
The help text entitled "Chart Wizard - Data Series" reads:
"Double-click on a chart and then choose Format - Data Spaces"
But when I double-click the chart/graph, there is no possibility to select "Format - Data Spaces". Instead I get a tool bar with a button labeled "Format the Selected". If I double-click again I get a window called "Chart wall". What's wrong?
Best regards,
H.R.

Re: Cannot edit the data series for a graph
Close & re-open your sheet--this is Calc's normal spreadsheet mode. The chart or graph is an embedded objects and will change if the data in the chart range changes, but otherwise the chart does not respond to any user actions.
When you double-click on the chart, the chart application takes over and the Calc application becomes inactive. In this state, all the toolbars and menus are attached to the chart application, so "Format > Data Ranges" refers to the menu at the top of the screen. You can also access the same settings through a right-click anywhere on the chart.
I hope perhaps that will clear up the situation and get you started toward a solution.

Re: Cannot edit the data series for a graph
Hi
Thanks for your response.
I closed the .ods-file and opened it again, and I double-clicked on the chart, and the Format-menu changes (becomes much smaller), but the point called "Dataområder" (Data-areas), near the bottom, above "3D-view", is grey and therefore not selectable, so what's wrong?
(BTW: The sheet-file consists of 2 sheets, one with all the data and 1 with the chart.)
Best regards,
H.R.

Re: Cannot edit the data series for a graph
Is it possible that your chart is not connected to the spreadsheet data?
A chart may be embedded in such a way that it carries its own local copy of the data. In that case it is not possible to change the data ranges.
That's all I can think of.
If you edit some data cell that's included in the chart, does the chart update to reflect the change? If not, the chart has become disconnected from the spreadsheet. If that is the case, I think you have to delete the chart and start over--I don't know of any way to re-connect it to the spreadsheet.

Re: Cannot edit the data series for a graph
Hi
Yes. That works! I deleted the sheet that only contains the chart so now the .ods-file only has one sheet. Here I created a new chart, and now I have access to Format -> Data ranges (Dataområder) etc., also after closing the file and re-opening it.
Thanks!
Maybe the problem has something to do with the fact that parts of this file has existed for 5-10 years, including a chart that I have now deleted because it's irrelevant.
Best regards,
H.R.
