[Solved] OOo 2.1 vs. 2.3 and MS Word Pad

Post by HEHS »

I like to open and edit RTF data with MS Word Pad (although it is very restricted).

OOo 2.1 (to which I returned after using 2.3 for about half an hour) opens Microsoft Word Documents automatically (if the respective function is activated in the installation process) but it does not open RTF data generated, edited and stored with MS Word Pad.

OOo 2.3, however, opened not only Microsoft Word Documents (which I highly appreciate) but also RTF data edited and stored with MS Word Pad (which I do not want - see above).

Is there a possibility to make OOo open MS Word Data, but to prevent it from automatically open RTF data from MS Word Pad?

I would be extremely grateful to get a respective answer and a helpful hint (if there is any to my peculiar intention), because I would like to upgrade my OOo installation.

In total, I am extremely satisfied and very happy with OOo, I think it is a very good and helpful product.

Not really anything to do with OO.o.

Open MS Windows Explorer. (Right Click Start button, click Explore)
Click on Tools - Folder Options
Click on File Types
Scroll down to RTF
Delete the entry.

Best way to make RTF open with OpenOffice.org
After doing the above:
Double Click on an RTF file.
Find OpenOffice.org on the list of applications to open it with.
Make sure the check box for "Always Use this application to open this type of file" is selected.

That should take care of it.

Thank you very much for your quick answer. Meanwhile I had looked around and found the solution you suggested (clicking on an RTF file etc...) Now everythink is OK and works as I had desired. Thanks a lot.

Check out the free WordPad substitute, Jarte. It is ideal for editing RTF files, and also supports the docx format. It adds useful features to WordPad like Spell-check, line numbering, bookmarks, etc., without too much bloat.
