Can't select multiple objects in a chart

Post by lko »

Supposedly one only need to press the Shift key to select multiple objects in a chart (for grouping), but I tried and tried and tried, even reinstalled OpenOffice a few times --- it does not work. What am I missing?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Do you mean several Draw objects put in the chart?
You can't select several series I think.
If it doesn't work, try to reset your OpenOffice user profile.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the edit button if your issue has been fixed.

First, please delete my second post. I thought the first post did not go through as I did not see the post. My apology.

Yes, for instance, I added some text or line objects from the draw tool at the bottom. And I need to group them.

Could you elaborate on "reset OpenOffice user profile"? How to do it and what has it got to do with the problem? Thanks.

Click the link and follow the instructions. Sometimes there are weird things that go away with a new profile.
Else, can you upload a sample file (see How to attach a document here)?

It doesn't work for me either. In fact, I don't even see options to group or ungroup objects in a chart at all, and a grouped object pasted from OOo Draw reverts to separate objects after pasting into a chart.

My guess is that these operations are just not supported in charts--drawing objects in charts is still quite a new feature; I can imagine that it isn't as robust as in the more mature applications.

Thanks. I followed the instruction and reset user profile --- The same, no change.

Here is a simple file with two text boxes in the chart. I cannot select them both. Thanks.

Hmm, indeed, it doesn't work for me with a dev snapshot of 4.0. I thought I had tried it in the past.

I can't select your text boxes. If I move the chart, all objects moves as if they are already grouped. (Same if I cut)
But if I draw an object (text box or other) on your chart I can select him and group/ungroup with the chart...

I'm using LibreOffice.

I installed LibreOffice, created a sample chart with a couple of text boxes and seem to have the same problem with not being able to select both text boxes, at least not by holding down the shift key.

I don't understand what you meant when you wrote you were able to group the text box you created with the rest of the chart? How? shift key? I tried it but could not group them. Could you give more detail on that part? Thanks.

Step 1 : I create the chart
Step 2 : I draw 2 text boxes

Then Shift+Click to select the 1st :

Shift+Click to select the 2nd (look at the green squares) :
2nd selection.jpg
Shift+Click on the chart and right Click, Group :

That's all...

*sigh* It doesn't work for me. Shift+click the text boxes only moves the blue box from around one text to the other.

In OpenOffice Drawing, I can get the grouping if I am click the Controls tab and not in the Layout tab. But there doesn't seem to be any equivalent thing in either Spreadsheet software.
