Opening Office docs in OpenOffice

Whenever I go to open an Excel doc in Calc it tries to open it in Writer and all I get is a bunch of #######. This happens when I try to open a Word doc in Writer also.

The Word documents are .doc or .docx? The Excel documents are .xlsx or .xlsx? If the latter, they are Microsoft Office 2007 documents which require special treatment in OOo version 2.x.

* odf-converter-integrator to convert docx for OpenOffice.org
* OxygenOffice with docx import
* Wait for OpenOffice.org 3.0 coming September 2008, or use the developer's snapshot available now
* Zamzar as an online docx converter

Also, you may want to install the Office 2007 fonts.
