OpenOffice documents and Nokia Lumia

Post by pappas »

Hello, I have new Lumia and it refuse to edit docs which are saved in Microsoft Word 97-2003 document (.doc), Microsoft Excel 97-2003 (.xls), or Microsoft PowerPoint 97-2003 presentation (.ppt). I want to edit documents in Lumia phone. What is the right way to save as openoffice documents? Thank you for your help!

Don't you think that Nokia or Microsoft would be the right addressee for this question?
I don't think that Microsoft/Nokia will ever support any free standards unless they are forced to.
Simple plain text is the right format for everything you want to do on a phone.

Possibly none of us have a Lumia phone. There have been recent reports that MS applications have got sensitive to reading non MS application generated files. There were some reports on this forum of Word not opening OpenOffice generated files; this might be the case with the Lumia phone.

You can ctrlcopy word/write files to notepad. Save all notepads to skydrive. Then you can edit files with Lumia. I have to found yet how to convert excel files, maybe with my friends PC including office. I would like to beat MS with Lumia editing possibility.
