Hi - This problem occurs fairly often on my WIndows XP Pro systemwhen trying to run OpenOffice 2.0.2: Either when starting the app directly or when double-clicking an OpenOffice document, nothing seems to happen. However, if I look at Task Manager, there will be multiple copies of soffice.bin and usually 1 copy of soffice.exe listed under PROCESSES but OpenOffice is not listed under Applications tab. Usually, if I start ending the soffice.bin processes, one at a time, suddenly OpenOffice will start up.
Problem almost never occurs if nothing else significant is running, but often occurs if MS-ACCESS is open andor if I am browsing th web at the same time, esp with pages that have a lot of active content.
I have a 2 Gig processor and 1GB of RAM
Thanks for any suggestions
Won't start but multiple copies in memory
Re: Won't start but multiple copies in memory
My first suggestion would be to upgrade to OOo 2.4.0 if possible, of course. This latest version is much more stable than any previous one, and the problem you have may simply have been eliminated in one of the releases between 2.0.2 and 2.4.0.
Another suggestion is that you could have Quickstarter loaded at boot time: it increases the boot time by about 30 seconds but on the other hand it speeds up the loading of each document. To activate it (in OOo 2.4.0), open a blank document and go to Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Memory and select the last checkbox "Load OpenOffice.Org during system start-up". Click on OK to complete the activation.
