[Solved] Spellcheck problem

Post by olof84 »

Hi!

Every word I write has an red underline as if it is spelled wrong. I have tried change into the right language and even to reinstall Open Office - but nothing works.
Please help!

No. You haven't even posted your operating system or your version of OOo/AOO. What part of the instructions do you not understand?

Your question can't be answered simply if we don't know your operating system. The answer is different for different operating systems.

My operating system is Windows 7. I don't know what an OOo/AOO is. I don't understand" Download the .oxt file on your HD." Where do I find the .oxt file? What is an HD?

I downloaded what I thought was a dictionary, but it turned out to be an html file.
"Cannot detect media-type file:///C:/users/corbett/downloads/dictionaries.htm"

I,m sorry I'm so helpless, maybe I should hire someone who speaks geek.

OOo/AOO stands for Openoffice/Apache Openoffice. The Apache Software Foundation is the current developers. What version do you have? Start Openoffice and click Help-->About and tell us what it says.

have you followed the links that lead you to the dictionaries download page???
Please read carefully the tutorial.
HD is for Hard Drive, OOo = OpenOffice.org (previous versions) and AOO = Apache OpenOffice, the new name.

Did you reset your user profile? That was the first advice given. There is no mention of oxt files in the user profile tutorial. If all words are underlined, that's a symptom of a problem with the user profile settings, not a missing dictionary. Did you install the version for the language you're using for your documents or do you need a different language?

I tried resetting my user profile, but there was no Tools>Options>OpenOffice.org under Organize in Windows explorer. Is there another path in Windows 7?

I tried making all my folders visible, but I was not able to follow the path suggested.
in the tutorial.
I am running Canadian English, that's what it says in Open Office under Tools/Language.

/Tools /Options/ OpenOffice.org is a Menu entry in OpenOffice itself.

To make hidden folders and files visible in WIN 7. Open Windows Explorer, click Organize--->Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab. Check the "Show Hidden Files, Folders and drive button. Click Apply and click OK.

Forget it. I can't rename or refresh or reconfig the users folder, it's locked. Once I understand one thing, two other questions arise. I have wasted enough time on this, especially yours, and it's time to cut my losses. ThANK YOU.

As long as OpenOffice is open, the User Profile folders are in use, and hence locked. If in doubt, start your Windows in Safe Mode.
