[Solved] OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
Open Office 3.4.1 keeps crashing. I have Vista (64).
I have
1. Uninstalled Java because of its vulnerability to malware.
2. Uninstalled/reinstalled OO.
3. Told OO not to use Java. (See http://www.openoffice.org/download/common/java.html)
4. Reset my user profile.
5. Turned off auto updater.
6. Renamed extensions files.
OO crashes about 30 seconds after opening a document. I can do work on the doc and save it.
When OO crashes and recovers, the saved doc is there. (OO does not recover the previously
saved doc.)
The previous version of OO had the same problem. I don't remember the version number, but
I had it for two or three years. I upgraded to 3.4.1 thinking it would solve my problem.
For a little more info on this issue, see my reply here: http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/vi ... 53#p265153
What should I do now?

Since no change when resetting the profile, close AOO (and Quickstarter) and go to the folder $USERPROFILE/3/user/extensions/bundled/ (where $USERPROFILE is the root path to your profile).
Rename the files extensions.pmap and extensions.db. Restart AOO and see if there is any improvement.

Done. OO has created a new user file, but it still crashes.Villeroy wrote:Reset your user profile.

Done. I renamed the extensions.pmap file in the new user file as well as the old user file.Hagar Delest wrote:Since no change when resetting the profile, close AOO (and Quickstarter) and go to the folder $USERPROFILE/3/user/extensions/bundled/ (where $USERPROFILE is the root path to your profile).

There are no extensions.db files.
OO continues to crash.
There were six OO icons in the system tray after I did this, but they disappeared when I moved my cursor over them.

Try turning off the Quickstarter.space ranger wrote:There were six OO icons in the system tray after I did this, but they disappeared when I moved my cursor over them.

There was no OO icon in the system tray, so I went to msconfig, unchecked the OO startup, and restarted my computer. I opened OO by clicking the icon in the Start menu. OO continues to crash.Bill wrote:Try turning off the Quickstarter.space ranger wrote:There were six OO icons in the system tray after I did this, but they disappeared when I moved my cursor over them.
I double checked the startup list in msconfig. OO is unchecked.

Re: OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
The icon reappeared in my system tray, but when I moved my cursor to it, it disappeared.
I stopped the quickstarter at Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Memory and restarted my computer.
OO takes longer to load now, but it continues to crash.
I think the icon is gone now.

Re: OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
Now that Quickstarter is properly disabled, I reset my user profile again and renamed the extensions.pmap file there. No luck.
Re: OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
Use Revo Uninstaller Free http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html with the most aggressive settings to remove your current install. Then re-install.

Reinstall the original download from http://openoffice.org. Never install anything from any warez sites.thomasjk wrote:Use Revo Uninstaller Free http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uni ... nload.html with the most aggressive settings to remove your current install. Then re-install.

Revo is not WAREZ. Its is free program, also available in a Pro version. Check out the link.

Re: OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
I restarted my computer, and the OO icon showed up in my system tray as soon as I logged in. When I moved my cursor to it, it was the real thing. I right clicked on it, then unchecked the Quickstarter option. Yes, even though I had disabled it through Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Memory, it remained checked in the system tray icon menu. This was the first time in recent memory that I could use the system tray icon as a link to the program, and the first time that I was able to use its menu.space ranger wrote:Now that Quickstarter is properly disabled, I reset my user profile again and renamed the extensions.pmap file there. I restarted my computer again. An unused, unsaved, blank doc wanted to be recovered (as usual), but I canceled it. I opened OO in the Start Menu, then clicked Open, then chose the spreadsheet I had been working on.
It stayed open.
I closed it and reopened it. It stayed open again.
I don't believe it. I'm going to wait and see.
Re: OpenOffice Keeps Crashing
I don't mean Revo. I mean the office suite which can be downloaded from hundreds of sites.thomasjk wrote:Revo is not WAREZ. Its is free program, also available in a Pro version. Check out the link.
Re-install the office package downloaded from http://openoffice.org
