Missing fonts

Post by widwod »

Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using? 2.4
What Operating System (version) are you using? windows xp
What is your question or comment?
I have downloaded the latest version of Open Office to both my mac OS X computer and Windows XP laptop and a customer has also downloaded Open Office 2.4 on their Windows XP computer on my recommendation.
My customer mentioned a font called BradleyHandITCCTBold which they found on the font list in the Writer /Text Document section.
I found this on the quite extensive list of fonts on my Mac but when going to my Windows XP found just a limited selection of fonts - not nearly as many as both my customer's Window XP and my Mac OSX had.
I deleted Open Office from my laptop and downloaded it again but still the same result.
I cannot find an answer to this in the help guides or on the forums.
Can you advise how can get these fonts onto my Windows XP (in simple, easy languague that a non-techie would understand)
please?!

AFAIK the Dejavu fonts and OpenSymbol are the only ones installed with OpenOffice. Other fonts will have to be downloaded/bought from elsewhere, e.g. My Fonts.com

OOo 2.4 also includes the Liberation fonts (on Linux at least), in addition to the DejaVu set and OpenSymbol.

It seems not unusual for XP systems to require a "font repair" before all the installed fonts are usable by OOo.

Sorry but you're too technical for me. I carried out a 'font repair' after searching 'how to'.... on the internet. This does not make any difference.
My point is that the download of Open Office 2.4 on my windows xp laptop contains only 45 font designs whereas the download on my mac and my customer's xp windows contain many, many more.

Apart from the Fonts already mentioned (DejaVu, OpenSymbol, and Liberation), other fonts are not installed with OpenOffice. Different users will have different fonts on their PCs. MS Windows XP has a whole load that are different to the Fonts Installed with Mac OS.

A lot of the Windows fonts depend on enabling Asian scripts. If you don't use Thai, Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, etc., then you don't need these fonts. You probably have Arial, Times, Comic Sans, Georgia, Lucida, Palatino Linotype, Tahoma, Trebuchet, Verdana, etc.

BradleyHand does not come standard with XP (i don't have it here at least) perhaps your customer got it with another program? It's not a free font either so if you really want it (and stay legal) you'll have to buy it. Here for example.
