[Solved] Constant crashing of AOO 3.4.1 on Windows 7

Does anyone else have problems with 3.4.1 crashing EVERY time a file is open. It opens the file and within about a minute it crashes and then says it will recover but hangs and I have to close the program. This started happening (I think) when I moved from winxp to windows 7. I have tried an uninstall and reinstall of the program thinking that something was corrupt in the install but this has not helped. I have used OOo for over 10 years with none of these issues until now.

Try resetting you user profile as explained in this tutorial.

Turn off the update checker. Tools-->Options-->Openoffice-->Online Updates.

I tried the profile reset and that did not help.
When I tried turning off the online updates it does appear to have fixed the problem.
I guess my question is why?
I'm assuming to get updates I'll just need to check on my own?

Just follow this forum and you will know when a new version is released. All the updater does is download the full version which you can do yourself.

I was having this issue and turning off online updates strangely enough fixed it. It must just have been a bug, the new release will more often than not sort stuff like this out so make sure you keep up with the latest updates and you should be fine.

I had the same problem with AOO 3.3 and 3.4 and 3.4.1 after installing Internet Explorer 9 on Vista. Uninstalling IE9 cured the problem but was inconvenient. Switching off OO automatic updates also cured the problem but allowed OO to be installed on the same computer as IE9. I have just upgraded to AOO 4.0.0 and it started crashing every time a document was saved. I found that AOO automatic updates was switched on. Switching it off cured the problem.
I am posting this in case it is helpful to others with the same problem - and also to confirm that, whatever the cause is, it seems to be something to do with IE9 and OO automatic updates. Unfortunately it still has not been fixed in AOO 4.0.0
