Post by bopet »

I am using a genealogy-program and certain reports opens as .rtf. The problem is that they always opens in Calc, i need them to open in Writer but I can not find a way to make it happen.

Open Writer from Programs setting, then /File /Open after navigating the file pane to your .rtf file(s). Otherwise cange File Associations (operating System setting) for .RTF files.

Maybe you must upgrade your version with 3.4.1

But if you open Writer first, does it work?
You could upgrade to latest version (AOO 3.4.1), it may help.

Are you sure that your file is in RTF?
Can you open it with Wordpad?

That´s really strange, it opens as an .rtf but saves as an .ods with only similar types of files to choose from. I can open it with wordpad but it comes up as mumbo-jumbo, just a bunch of signs.

Let me add that i´m useless when it comes to computers, but i´m a first-grade cabinet-maker ;-). It´s of little use in this specific case.

Can you create an export with non confidential data (create a fake family member for example) and upload it here (see How to attach a document here)?

But that's an ods file, not an RTF. I thought your application produced RTF files.
If you need a text document, then copy the cells and paste as formatted text for example in a Writer document.

Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Yes, thats the bizarre problem, according to the supplier of the program it opens as an .rtf, but all of a sudden it is an .ods when i save the file. I wasn´t aware that it opend as an .ods. However i tried your suggestion, and it kind of worked. The dokument looks different, but it´s close enough. Many thanks for your help!
