Hi and welcome to the forum!

If you export as PDF first, does it work?

Check Tools-->Options-->Openoffice-->Print. Make sure that convert to gray scale is not checked.

What do you mean? The PDF or the print is B&W?
In former case, the problem is with AOO, check the setting mentioned by thomasjk. In the latter case, the problem is with your printer...

The sheets of words show up in colour on the screen for printing on both systems but black & white comes out.

It seems that there is a problem with your printer. Does it print in color with other applications (like printing an image)?

Try resetting the user profile http://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/vi ... 74&t=12426. What kind of printer do you have?

I'm just now trying on an Epson WP4535; on /File /Print Select your printer (if more than one). Now click on the Properties button, which is below the Printer selection box. On my system (Ubuntu 12.04) I get two tabs on the window which opens; on is Paper ad allows setting of paper size and duplex options. The other is Device, which opens to show a list of options such as paper type selection, Colour choice. Highlight the colour choice and it should offer you two options, one for colour and one for greyscale. Select the colour. If it is available on that screen also select colour from Printer language type at the bottom and From driver and 24 bit colour.

And here is the equivalent Windows Print screen. See the choice for colour or B&W on it
