[Solved] Java Runtime Environment
[Solved] Java Runtime Environment
I recently tried to register OpenOffice 3.1 on Windows 7 and it says that I needed to have Java Runtime Environment. It said please install and re-open Open Office.org to register. I already had JRE, but I reinstalled it again. It still gives me the same error that I need JRE. Any suggestions??? Thanks

Re: Java Runtime Environment
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Have you installed the 32bit version? AOO doesn't see the 64bit version.
NB: there are many topics about that in the MS Windows forum where I move your topic. Please have a look.
Please add '[Solved]' at the beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Re: Java Runtime Environment
I went to programs and it says Java 2.1.1 and java 7 update 9. I googled 32 bit and C-Net says it is only for experienced users because of potential bugs.

Re: Java Runtime Environment
Your decision: do you want OpenOffice to run as suggested on the Forum, or do you want to believe C-Net?
Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 on Xubuntu 24.04.4 LTS

If you want to do anything in OOo 3.1 that requires Java, you should install 32-bit Java 6. OOo 3.1 won't recognize any version of Java 7.
Re: Java Runtime Environment
Thanks. I definitely have Java 7. Can you have both at once? Other sites I go to asked me to update to 7. Thanks Bill

Re: Java Runtime Environment
Yes, you can have different Java versions and then chose in the OOo dialog.

Re: [Solved] Java Runtime Environment
I was in Base. When I tried to create a new database, I got a message, "Openoffice requires a Java runtime environment to perform this task."
I downloaded the JRE, but I still did not see any runtime environment listed in the dialog box where you have to add one or select one.
I solved this by going to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Program tab. I clicked the Manage Add-ons button. I selected Toolbars and Extensions on the left side pane. Next, I saw that the Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper was Disabled. I clicked Enable. This fixed it so that at least I could use Design view, though I could not use the Wizards. Perhaps that is because I did not register the database when I created it? This was my very first attempt to create a database, so I don't really know what I am doing yet.

Re: [Solved] Java Runtime Environment
Did you enable Java in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Java? If it doesn't appear there, you may need to install a 32-bit Java if you're using 64-bit Vista.
Re: [Solved] Java Runtime Environment
Think you need to download version 6 of Java from here:-
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_v6.jsp
Perhaps Bill, who seems to know a great deal about this, can confirm.

I can only confirm what works for me. I removed Java 6 and installed Java 7 months ago.johnoo wrote:Think you need to download version 6 of Java from here:-
