X11 - "Optional Installs" on cd doesnt run installer program

Hi guys am McNoob if you haven't guessed already.

Am running intel macbook, on 10.4.11 and need to install X11.

Firstly the "Optional Installs" file on the mac os install cd is not a picture of a box with yellow stuff in it, rather it is a plainish white typical "file" icon (like a piece of paper with the top right hand corner folded down).

When I click on this, instead of getting a nifty install program, it seems to open the "Package Maker" program. This seems to allow me to edit install programs rather than run them! There are three "tabs", Installer Interface, Contents and Scripts. The first one (installer interface) has Title and Description fields and a "Show Installer Interface Editor" button.

I have a nasty feeling it is doing this because I installed some development related software once and now it's doing something clever rather than the default operation.

How can I actually run the installer program?

You have clicked on the wrong file. Be sure you are using Install Disk 1. Carefully follow the instructions at <http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/faq/i ... html#tiger>.

You will need to scroll down to find "Optional Installs.mpkg". If you have any problems post back outlining exactly each step you took.

1 - I put in the correct disc
2 - Double Click on the "Mac OS X Install Disc 1" icon on the desktop
3 - Scroll down in the window.
4 - All icons are layed out in the same fashion as the website you linked to with same descriptions.
5 - The "Optional Install" icon is there, but rather than it being an icon of a brown box with yellow contents, it is an icon of a white piece of paper with the top right corner folder over.
6 - When double clicking on it a different window to the one featured on the website comes up. It says "Optional Installs" in the title bar, but is not an install "wizard" but rather seems to be software for designing install packages. (PackageMaker Version 2.1.1 (123)).

It seems, for some reason, that you do not have the Optional Installs package. Did you click on Contents as shown in your screenshot?

I'd suggest contacting Apple Support about this, since the OO.o and Apple Support guides to installing X11 both show the package that you don't seem to have, as does my MacBook install disc.
