File Association when Clicking on Image Map

Post by Digger »

In a Draw file, I have an image map that links to a jpeg file. When I click on this image map, the jpeg file opens in my browser. I want it to open in Ristretto.

How do I make this happen? I've been through all of the option pages, but nothing is jumping out at me!

I'm running Debian Squeeze at the moment.

TIA!

So, I assume your links then are file: urls, right?

If that's the case, I'm not sure what software actually decides what application to launch but I'm fairly sure it's not OOo. It may be that OOo simply passes the url to your browser and the browser decides what should handle it.

In any case, you're supposed to be able to configure the file associations at the desktop level, but I don't know for sure where that configuration is done. It should be in the desktop settings somewhere, maybe as "default applications" or something like that.

Thanks, ack.

I found a problem very similar to mine....the OP never really found a solution:

When I make an image map in Draw and make a link to a separate image file (a png but I doubt that matters), OOo runs a program called "xdg-open". It looks like xdg-open is supposed to be responsible for starting the proper application as configured by the user.

However, under Fedora/Gnome at least, the application I select in the desktop configuration tool seems to have no effect; xdg-open still uses the default setting (the "shotwell" image viewer), so who knows.
