[Issue] Can't OPEN Multi Page TIF

Post by freemanx »

Hello,
I'm fairly inexpierenced using OOo Draw so I'm relying on existing documentation. Everything I've read says that OOo can Open Multi Page TIF/TIFF documents (in Draw). But a 3-page TIF document I have that displays correctly in MS Office Document Imaging, MS Picture & Fax Viewer and MS Picture Manager will not Open correctly in OOo Draw; it only shows the first page. I want to convert this document to a multi page PDF but can't do so if I can't get it to Open correctly. I tried it in OOo 2.1 (it wouldn't even show the first page in 2.1) and then upgraded to OOo 2.4 but still no Multi Page view.
I know there are other ways I could acheive this goal but I want to be using OOo a lot more and problems like this keep me from doing so.
Any one know how to get OOo to do what it is suppose to do; Open a Multi Page TIF Document?
Thanks TR

Hi and welcome to the community!

Indeed, importing multi-page TIF files currently does not work in OOo.
Issue 9193 describes the problem. The target milestone is set to OOo later, so it might still take some time until this is resolved.
You may vote for the issue in order to emphasize on its importance.

Also, the topic is listed as development project.

I think the function is not quite easy to implement. It is generally difficult to import an object that has multiple pages on a single page.
So there has to be some solution which has to be chosen by the user. Solutions could be e.g.
  • choose one of the pages to be displayed?
  • clone to the current page to multiple pages to display each of the pages in the TIF file?

Weird, I tried to open a multipage TIF file on my W2k system and the MS applications you mentioned couldn't see all the pages whereas XnView could.

In such cases, anyway, I just export each page as a new picture to avoid any problem. Moreover, I don't need always all the pages.

I don't like such feature because the user may miss the additional pages. Why not make it clear and make 3 separate sheets in a zip archive for example if it has to be sent to someone else?
