JasperReports and java classes triggered from form buttons?

Has anyone tried to integrate JasperReports with Base? I notice that the LibreOffice guys are continuing development of Oracle Report Builder - it has a different version number and is integrated in LibreOffice now - but it still feel rickety with a dubious future. Maybe Jasper could be a path forward.

It already writes ODF formats, and has its own report template editor - all that's needed is some way of launching the report from within OpenOffice. Maybe what I should be asking is, has anyone tried launching a custom Java class from within a Base form - triggered by a button, perhaps? It should be possible - here is a post on using java in macros.
