Welcome beginner. Please answer all of the questions below which may provide information necessary to answer your question.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Which version of OpenOffice.org are you using?
OpenOffice.org version 2.4.0, Build 2.45.0.3.6
What Operating System (version) are you using?
Linux (openSUSE 10.3 (i586), Linux 2.6.22.17-0.1-default i686, KDE 3.5.7 "release 72.6"
What is your question or comment?
On starting, I get a error message "Error setting the look and feel" The error also repeats whenever I open any existing file or create a new one.
Second problem: The numbers are unrecognisable. The font only for the numbers seems to be changed, though the formatting toolbar shows no change in font.
I have attached the desktop snapshot.
1. The look and feel Error.
2. An open file "Visiting cards". The field clearly shows the numbers in readable format. While, these are unreadable form in the file.
Searched through mailing lists and FAQ's. Could not find any reference.
Thanks for any help to resolve the issues.

Re: Error Setting the look and feel
The "look and feel" error sounds like the work of your operating system. Are you using a Novell build or a Sun build? (My Sun build provides a version number only so I can't check the build number.)
I don't follow your comments about readability of numbers.

Re: Error Setting the look and feel
This is Novell version, and build version from rpm file. (Real build number can be checked by opening About OOo, and CTRL+s d t)
I tried to insert similar user field in OOo 2.4 in openSuse 10.3, and it works. No strange behavior and look and feels error.
Try to refresh OOo installation, maybe some file broken.

Re: Error Setting the look and feel
The problem does not seem to be that of OS. It does not appear in any application other than OOo. In Calc, the numbers appear correct in formula bar, appears unrecognisable in cell while being entered, but change to recognisable rendering once out of the cell. However, in all other OO applications - Writer, Impress, Draw - the problem continues. I have attached another snapshot from writer. The 10 characters are digits (numbers) from 0 to 9. The font, as seen from the tool bar is Albany AMT. (However, changing the font does not change appearance).
This problem has appeared after I installed Open SuSE Linux 10.3 - fresh install and upgraded all upgradable applications through YAST.
This is Novel build, Ctrl + s d t, gave me [680mt (Build:9286)].
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'm not expert on eastern languages, but 86811, WW8: arabic/hindi numbers instead of decimal numbers, bug describe similar problems, when document imported from doc.

Re: Error Setting the look and feel
In my case, I have not imported word document. The visiting card labels were created in OOo 2.2, under OpenSuSE 10.0. I had used/edited this document in OOo, 2.2 under SuSE 10.2 about 2 months back. I installed SuSE linux 10.3 last week and upgraded to OOo2.4. I am facing this problem since then. In addition, the problem is not at all limited to existing files - the numerals are rendered in arabic/farsi - I don't really know which - font even for new files.
I have tried with enabling/disabling asian language /CTL support under options. The problem persists. Seems I have to revert to previous version of OOo
The links/bugs referred in previous note relate to importing of documents and possibly with Hebrew language; not really relevant in my case. Thanks for the links anyway.
Thanks

Re: Error Setting the look and feel
Try sun version of OOo, download from OOo site, select rpm version, it installs parallel with opensuse versions into directory under /opt/ and user settings /home/<username>/.openoffice.org2 folder.
Opensuse installs into usr/share and user settings into /home/<username>/.ooo-2.0 folder.
Opensuse version installs with name openoffice_org in yast, sun version with openoffice.org names.
Try to refres OOo installation.

[Solved] Re: Error Setting the look and feel
Thanks everybody, the problems have been solved.
The "Error setting the look and feel" problem is related to the extension "clker.oxt". Disabling this extension eliminated the problem.
The other problem - rendering of numbers in un-recognised font was solved by installing from the package downloaded from openoffice.org site (I think this is Sun built.). I un-installed the earlier version (OpenSuSE version), as Yast installation failed with a few errors (which I haven't logged).
Thanks, once again for the help and hints.
