[Solved] Making Thesaurus Work in 3.4.0

Post by ognapolean »

When I updated to the 3.4.0 version, I installed it over the old one. That's when my thesaurus stopped working. Here's how I fixed it so that the thesaurus works for US English, plain and simply:

1) Go to Tools > Extension Manager
2) Delete all of the language extensions except "American English Spell Checking 1.0" and "English spelling and hyphenation dictionaries and thesaurus 2010.03.16"
3) Close OpenOffice
4) Check to be sure that it's not still open in your task manager (bottom right of screen). If your Quickstarter is enabled, this must be closed as well. Right click on the OpenOffice icon and click "Exit Quickstarter" to completely close OO.
5) Restart OpenOffice. Your F7, Ctrl+F7, right click word to get synonyms and Tools>Language>Thesaurus features will all be there, working properly.

This is as simple as it gets. Good luck :super:

I completely removed OOo including the user profile before installing AOO 3.4 and only had to disable the New Zealand extension in the Extension Manager and restart AOO.

Great. I guess my post is for those who installed 3.4 b4 removing anything else. If that's you, this is the easiest fix.

I just noticed that this is posted in the LibreOffice forum, but I assume the workaround is actually for Apache OpenOffice.

Your Caps key seems to have a severe malfunction. Perhaps this affecting your OpenOffice installation?
