no icon to use tools

Hi, i have downloaded the open office suite - several times - and when down load is complete I can find no icon anywhere which allows me to open the suite of tools - writing etc. Initially two icons appear on my Google tool bar one says 'open' the other 'office' but then they disapppear. FYI Google initially sent an auto set-up cookie which I used to download, the tools became duly available then disappeared again, so uninstalled and downloaded again. Still no icon nor tools! Where am I going wrong?

What OS? If WinXP.
You installed OOo? if yes you can find in Start>All Programs>OpenOffice.org>Writer the wordprocessor, Calc the speadsheet....

If not installed yet, you've to find where your download applications has put the .exe file (if under Windows) and then run it.
