Location of User data

Potentially a repost (my original attempt doesn't seem to be showing up; if both show up my apologies to all!).

I've been using various versions of OpenOffice for a few years (multiple platforms, but for the purpose of this discussion Mac OS X, primarily PPC 10.4 currently). In Libary/Application Support I've accumulated the following directories since my last purge:

*) OpenOffice.org
*) OpenOffice.org 2.0
*) OpenOffice.org 2.1
*) OpenOffice.org2

And most notably, the transition from OOo 2.3 to 2.4 seems to have 2.4 using OpenOffice.org/2 where 2.3 used OpenOffice.org2.

I can construct a logical argument for any one of these, but having each and every version use a *different* user data store seems hard to understand (as well as making it a bit difficult to explain to others where to put our clients customized "standard.soc" and font stores for consistency.

Is there some logic to this, or am I doing something wrong during installation causing this migratory behavior?

@khb: I don't think you do something wrong, it seems to be a feature

I've got the same issues, doing updates from 2.0 on.

For the update 2.3-> 2.4 ALL my configuration disappeared, until I've copied the folder tree OpenOffice.org2/user into OpenOffice.org/2 (after moving the original folder to the desktop). As far as I can say, it is save to remove the folder OpenOffice.org2 then. This works fine for me.

So, every OOo update on Mac OS X is a kind of little adventure

A note to the developers/porters of this fine software:
It would be nice, when new 2.x versions would use the configuration in OpenOffice.org/2/user. When version 3 will arise, a migration of the 2.x configuration would be a nice feature, too (I guess into OpenOffice.org/3/user?).
