[Solved] Auto-correct and Auto format

Post by hdham »

I don't want to use auto format for the outlines I create, preferring to set indents as I need them with a keyboard shortcut, and use my own numbering system. I do, however, want auto-correct to run as I type, especially for custom quotes and typo correction. I can't seem to have one without the other. Is there a way to do this? I am a new user, so probably just overlooking something.

You can deactivate the numbering autoformat and apply shortcuts to styles (Tools>Customize, Keyboard tab, in the Category area bottom left, far bottom of the list, you can define shortcuts for styles.

Thanks to add '[Solved]' in your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

You can configure the automatic list numbering to use almost any numbering style and indentation that you need. The automatic numbering can save a lot of time if you need to re-arrange an outline. I hated it at first, but now I find it quite helpful. Hagar's suggestion would let you apply your customized settings easily.

However, if you want to do it manually, you can turn off the automatic recognition using:

Tools > Autocorrect > Options > "Apply numbering - Symbol: •" = OFF

You can still activate the numbering manually using the toolbar buttons, but OOo will not automatically activate it based on what you type.

Solved!
Thanks for the help. Got it the way I want it now. The problem with auto outlining is that I use hard carriage returns sometimes without changing the number heading, and so it is easier to set up key combinations for incrementing and decrementing indents (Shift-M and Ctl-shift-M), then use my own system of numbering.
