Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitled
Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitled
I've installed LibreOffice Version 3.3.1 -21 for about 30 locations in our organization. When an existing document is opened, it comes up with a name of "Untitled" as opposed to the document name. Because of this, users have to save the document under a different name as opposed to just being able to hit the save button. Has anyone experienced a similar situation or know why this is happening?

Maybe your files are not documents (with odt, ods extension) but they are templates (with .ott, ots... extension). When an existing document is opened, it comes up with a name of "Untitled" as opposed to the document name.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did verify the format of the documents. We're working with .doc and .xls formats.

Re: Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitl
I've come across the same problem on Win XP and Vista with LibreOffice 3.5.1 and LibreOffice 3.5.2
1. I created an .ott template file containing some fields.
2. Opened the .ott file and saved it as a 97/2000/XP/2003 .doc file.
3. Opened the saved .doc file - And here the title is Untitled eventhough I've just saved it as e.g. test.doc
4. Tried to save the .ott file as an .odt file instead.. Correct title is now displayed.
See attachments... Hope they are useful.

Works fine for me with OOo 3.3.0 and LibO 3.4.5 on Ubuntu 11.10.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

Works fine for me too, with OxygenOffice3.2.1 and LibO3.5.2 on WinXP_Prof_SP3.

Re: Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitl
Just upgraded to LibreOffice 3.5.2 and now when I open a .doc file it shows up as untitled. I changed the preference to open with Libre3.5 and not Libre Writer. Doesn't make difference. I am operating on Windows XP professional. Anyone have a solution to this very annoying problem?

Re: Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitl
I just checked the 2nd attachment above and it is not a .doc file! It seems to be .docx but when I rename it as .docx, MS Word 2010 can't open it. If I rename it .ott, then it opens indeed as Untitled, which is logical.
How have you saved the file as .doc exactly?
@TALAS, make sure this is not something similar. Don't hesitate to upload your file here also. Perhaps there is a bug in LibO when saving a template to another format.

Re: Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitl
Thank you for your reply ... I uploaded a file that I created in Word 2010 and saved it as TEST.doc. However, after the upgrade to LibreOffice 3.5.2, if I open this document using LibreOffice, it opens it as "Untitled 1". If I edit this file in Libre Office and then save it as "TEST2.doc" and reopen it again using LibreOffice, it now opens it as "Untitled 2".
The previous version of LibreOffice and OpenOffice would keep the file name.
This problem is annoying because everytime someone opens the file, they have to rename it.

Thank you all for your responses. I wonder if this is an issue that affect Windows XP Pro. It appears bshsmith's is using the XP and reported the same problem. I'll report the "bug" as suggested by Hagar Delest. Thank you again.

Re: Opening saved LibreOffice documents show title as untitl
Very strange. When I download and open the files that I posted they open with the correct file name. If I save that file to my desktop or if I create a new file and save it to my desktop, then the file name changes to "Untitled 1" after opening with LibreOffice.
