Hey, total noob here. Well, to linux, I've been using OO for a long time.
I have a document I was writing, very important, 85k or so words, in fact, been writing it over a period of months. Yesterday I did a spell check, then realised that it was on US spelling, not AU, so I did a quick change. Saved, exited. It was all there when I saved and exited.
This morning when I opened up Libre and opened my file, I got an ACII prompt, which language, etc, and no matter what I put it on, when I click okay, the document opens completely blank. I didn't get a prompt to recorvery, the file in my documents is 0kb, and there doesn't seem to be any backups, which is very unusual.
So as a noob, I need some very specific instructions on what I need to do.
Ta, lads.

Re: Changing Language blanked my odt.
Hi and welcome to the forum!
Check the temporary folder of the system (see in OOo Tools>Options>OOo>Paths). If there are folders like sgmlf.tmp with a file having the same name inside, make a copy of that file, rename it in .doc or .odt and cross your fingers.
Have you restarted the machine since closing the file yesterday?

*salute* Cheers, Hagar, I'll try that. Yes, unfortunately, I did shut the computer down.

Unfortunately there's nothing in the backup. Is there any way I could do a restore?

When you say there is no backup, have you checked the profile (see [Tutorial] The OOo user profile)?
You can try a recovery tool. I've used PhotoRec in the past and it worked quite well.
If no luck, have you tried the LibO forum and/or mailing list if there are similar cases? I remember one or 2 topics here about files down to 0b but not recently.

Yes, Sir. I have checked the user profile. All hiddens enabled, ect. No backups.
I'll have a go with photorec. Cheers, mate. I'll be sure to tell y'all if it works.
