For a filled half circle, you can also use, from the "Basic Shapes" palette, the "Circle Pie" shape. Just move the yellow handles to produce a half-circle.

Unfortunately, Draw gives you no convenient way to adjust the yellow handles in precise amounts, so it's hard to get a perfect half-circle.

If you need a precise half-circle, Bhikkhu Pesala's method is better, although it's not trivial to get the two shapes aligned perfectly for that as well.

If you need a half-circular arc (just the circumference line, no fill or diameter line), you have to use the subtraction method, or use Tools > Customize to add the "Ellipses toolbar" item to the Drawing toolbar. The Ellipses toolbar has a specialized item for drawing arcs, and this tool can snap the endpoints to specific angles, so you can easily draw a half-circle arc.
