[Issue] When does OOo support the SVG format ?
Where can I post the following question ?
When does OOo support the SVG Scalable Vector Graphics format ?

This site for help provided by users to users, no developers here, but developers working on it see OOo wiki SVG Import Filter page

Re: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
While SVG import was accepted as a GSoC 2007 project, no status updates have ever been posted and it appears that no work was ever done.
A couple weeks ago, the first news of progress in several years was posted here: http://blog.thebehrens.net/2008/02/28/b ... vg-import/
It's got a ways to go still (the extension does a better job), but it's good to know that progress is being bade on a native import filter.

Once more: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
Hi, where is a forum to reach the developers ? I know other software you can discuss bugs and features with the developers.
In the links above there is the text:

Two weeks ago, I had the privilege to work on a fun project using company time - it was Novell HackWeek again. So I teamed up with friend & colleague Fridrich to finally get OOo its long-deserved built-in SVG import - in fact, this is the most voted-for feature of the whole project.
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wik ... ort_Filter
SVG support is the most requested feature in OpenOffice.org. So far, there exists an external filter that has quite strong dependencies, and a proof-of-concept implementation of an internal one. Google Summer of Code 2007 project was accepted to get the internal implementation to a shape that would be acceptable for integration.
I am a chemist, and there is no good feature to import molecule formulas into a OOo text document. To do it with pixel images is not accepted for publications. SVG would give scalable reaction formulas in good quality.
BTW: The best thing would be a chemical formula editor in OOo Draw. As I know, no other editor has such a feature.

Re: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
For now, your best option is to use whatever chemical formula editor you think is best, then:
- print to PDF
- open PDF with Inkscape
- save as ODG
- open ODG with OOo Draw
You can save SVGs from Inkscape and import them into OOo Draw with the SVG import extension, but I've had better success with saving ODGs in Inkscape.

Re: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
You might want to have a look at xdrawchem. It looks like it will do what you want, although I can't test it ATM.

Re: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
Hi,
I don't want to have a "workaround" with four steps. It should go conveniently. At best as Copy/Paste forwards and backwards. Often you must put formulas from the publication back to the formula editor to change them. OLE objects would be the best, but this does not yet work on Linux.
I know four chemical editors (xdrawchem, chemtool, bkchem and MarvinSketch) which all can export SVG !
So I will change my question a little bit: Why does OOo not support the Open SVG format ?

Re: Once more: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
Considering how few chemists are in the world who are also OOo users, how would that be practical to implement at this point? There's a pretty good reason why no other editor has such a feature. However, if you know someone who can code one, they're certainly welcome to go for it.huwagner wrote:BTW: The best thing would be a chemical formula editor in OOo Draw. What is Open SVG? Sounds like the Microsoft "Open XML" which isn't an open format at all.
Cheers!

Re: When does OOo support the SVG format ?
If you've installed the SVG extension (as mentioned in the first reply), then you can just drag your SVG files right into Draw.
About SVG
Hi, first a citation:

"SVG is an open standard created by the World Wide Web Consortium's SVG Working Group."
And second:
We will install the SVG extension in our chemistry student computer pool.
