Hi
I want to do one of two things with my chart and I don't know how, or if it is even possible:
1. I want to make the line connecting the points on a scatter plot a different colour depending on if they are positive or negative (blue for positive, red for negative)
2. If that is not possible, I want to make the background of the chart black below the zero line on the x-axis and white above it. I tried using a gradient but I could not get it to simply change colour over a certain line.
Thanks

Re: Chart Area Colouring
With OOo 3.3 you can add a drawing object (rectangle) to the chart and size it to the lower half of the chart wall.
The drawing object responds appropriately when the chart's dimensions are changed.
Unfortunately it does not appear to be possible to position it behind the wall so its background needs to be transparent otherwise it hides the plotted series.

| Edit: If your points are connected by straight lines you could manipulate your original data to generate a new column of x values and two new columns of y values. The new x values are the original x values plus x values, calculate by interpolation, for every part of the chart that crosses the x axis. The first of the new y values are the original y values and zero for each of the interpolated x values. The second of the new y values is the original y values that are less than or equal to zero, zero when the x value is an interpolated value and blank where the original y value is greater than zero. The series using the new x values and the second lot of new y values must be arranged to sit on top of the series using the first lot of new y values. The "Leave gap" option must also be used otherwise the negative series will continue along the x axis. This option is on the "Options" tab sheet of the "Data Series" dialogue that appears when you select "Format Data Series..." from the popup menu that appears when you right-click a data series. |
