Multiple subforms NO CAN DO

Post by rowland15 »

So I'm googling for a way to add multiple subforms in a form. I got (I think) a subform by adding a table control. But whenever I add another table control it won't let me change the MySQL table mapping for that control INDEPENDENTLY of ALL the other table controls on the form. That's just lame.

So anyway I google and I find this:

http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/ ... &sk=t&sd=a
Open Navigator
In navigator, right click on the form you want to create a subform for (I found it easier to select rename first and give it something more sensible than 'Main Form' which meant nothing to me) and select New from the list
This should create a subform called 'Standard' which I immediately renamed into something I could recognize
Right click on the new subform and select Properties
I have no idea what this Navigator thing is unless it's a Netscape browser. The help mentions a Navigator and tells me all sorts of things about it except the two things I most urgently need to know: 1) What the hell is it? and 2) How do I get to it?

But I bring up OpenOffice Base and at least then I get a list of forms in the main window. I'm guessing this might be the Navigator even though it doesn't say Navigator anywhere on it. Right clicking on the form name gets me nowhere. There IS no 'New' in the dropdown there.

Second guess: Choose Edit from the above-mentioned menu and that opens up the form in a Writer window. Enable the Form Navigation bar. See an little icon that looks like maybe it's intended to look like a compass. Click on that. I get a little window labeled Navigator with lots of junk but NO list of forms and no New either.

What the freaking hell does this thing want from me?

Oh, I get it.

It's NOT Navigator. It's Form Navigator.
Off the Form Design toolbar, in Writer.

Intuitive it isn't. This thing seems to be slavishly aping Microsoft Access. Well guess what. Microsoft Access sucks.

And toolbars suck!
