For several years I've had the opportunity to insert images from my scanner direct into OOo-documents. But after re-installing all my software after HDD-crasj, it doesn't work. To scan to a file works, though. But when trying to scan and insert the image directly, this happens:
1. When I click Insert, Picture, Scan, and Choose source, the scanner software "Scanwise" comes up as option and I choose it.
2. Then I choose Request, the Scanwise opening window appears, immeadiately followed by a pop-up window with the error message: "Some components are missing. Please re-install the application with the right scanner." And when clicking OK, the following message is:"The application is unable to initialize and will close. Clicking OK, it does.
I've tried to uninstall OOo completely (including removing all traces in the registers and remaining catalogs) and re-installed OOo. But still the problem is there. During the installing procedure, no question about which scanner appeared, though.
And as before the diskcrasj, I run the software as administrator.
Where do I find the mentioned missing files? And where to copy them? Other things to do?
I run Windows Vista, the scanner is an Agfa Snapscan Touch and the OOo is ver. 3.3

Re: Error inserting image from scanner
Hi and welcome to the forum!
I don't really have an answer. If it used to work, there is no reason it should not work again now.
But basically, better us a picture manager to import the picture, work on it (crop/color adjustment) and save it in the proper format (png or jpg depending on the content). Then import it in Writer. It insures that the original file format is kept in OOo. Else, there are some cases where a jpg have been converted to png, hence heavily increasing the file size.

That sounds like a problem with the scanner application, not OOo. Did you re-install the Scanwise software? Did you select the correct scanner when installing Scanwise?Olanho wrote:2. Thanks for the answers!
To Hagar: There is obviously is a reason!
To Bill: May be you are right. But my answer to your quesion is: I re-installed the Scanwise software (following the same special procedure as in the first place, though. See below.)
But an idea struck me: Maybe I this time installed the scanner before OOo. Could that make a difference?
You have to follow a special procedure when running the install software. You have to stop the procedure when you are asked to choose language and go to find the (hidden) <pftxxx~temp> directory (which is the directory for the temporary unpacked driver software), and copy it to the desktop. Then to cancel the install go to Device manager an update the driver, pointing to my desktop to find the driver files. I don't know why it is so, but it works. I found this procedure on http://home.torensma.net/index.php?page ... cle.id=207&.
For now I end up with the question: Where have the missing files to be placed to be found of OOo?

That's indeed a possibility, definitively worth a try.Olanho wrote:But an idea struck me: Maybe I this time installed the scanner before OOo. Could that make a difference?

[SOLVED] Re: Error inserting image from scanner
I have mentioned my question, "Where have the missing files to be placed to be found of OOo?", to a skillful computer friend. And he gave me this solution:
In the old DOS OS there was a command called PATH. It is still there both in Vista and W7! To find it, right-click Computer, choose Properties. At the the left side of the window you'll find Tasks. Choose Advanced system settings. Down in the pop-up window (system capabilities), click Environment variables. In the next pop-up window, scroll down the variables window til you find PATH. Then choose Edit and write the path you want to add, starting with a ';'.
According to my question, I pasted in the path to my scanners directory. That worked: OOo found the necessary files!
So, as far as scanning images directly into any OOo-document concerns, the solution is found.
But the solution did not help about Photoshop Elements, still that software cant find even the scanner. But about that problem I have to visit another forum.
Thanks for answers!
