I am trying to save a Writer document as a template using the following: File> Templates> Save. The Save icon is greyed out. I have closed and reopened the document but it is still greyed out. Am I missing a step somewhere?

What OS ? Please read the Survival Guide for the forum for next threads.
Are you sure you've enough rights in your OOo user profile for templates ?

LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.

I did specify my OS in the subject line. My apology if this was not the proper place. From your comment I take it I should have specified my OS in the body of my post???
All settings in my profile appear to be OK.
I worked around my problem by changing the file extension of my document to *.ott and moving the document to the MyTemplates folder. Seems to work. I would still like to be able to do a direct save as a template from the template menu.

My problem seems to be solved, at least with documents other than the one that was giving me problems. I was able to start a new document and save it as a template. Must be something in my first document that OOo doesn't like.

Just for information : with that method, the documents created from the template are not really linked to it. So if you change the template, OOo won't ask you if you want to update documents created from it afterwards IIRC. The template has to be imported from the Organize dialog.mrtaiko wrote:I worked around my problem by changing the file extension of my document to *.ott and moving the document to the MyTemplates folder.

Thanks for the tip. I'll work on recreating my template and saving it properly.
