Picture inserted into table

Post by tays01s »

When I insert a picture into a table the table border, it appears that there is an arbitrary space put around the picture that doesn't permit me to make a tighter fit of the cell border around the picture. I can't spot any obvious borders causing this but I must have missed something.

There can be space coming from as many as three different sources:
- the table: look under Borders > Spacing to contents
- the image: Wrap > Spacing
- the paragraph: indents & Spacing

If you want a tight fit, they all have to be zero.

All 3 = 0.00cm and line spacing = single. So I'm still puzzled.

There should be no extra space--it's perfectly tight for me.

Are you sure that your image does not have some kind of border/frame?

To get any more specific, I expect we would need to see the actual document--or at least a sample from it. I think sometimes a space is left for text to be inserted because of the wrap option chosen. However, in the attached item this is not the problem and I'd like to tighten cell lines, top/bottom around the picture.

Ok, I see what you mean. But, as far as I can see, the space in your sample is coming primarily from manual positioning of the image. I guess that would make source #4 in my list

I generally find that layout in Writer is more predictable when I anchor images "As character". That setting prevents Writer from trying to adjust anything and I can use the familiar character/paragraph layout settings to get the right position.

Here's your sample with my tweaks...

However, with something like this, if the layout were really important, I would either a) do it in Draw, where I can position everything freely, or b) divide the image into the four pieces and put each one in it's own table cell. That way, the entire layout is just a normal table.

Double click the pic and in the Wrap tab, set the left spacing to 0 instead of 0.20.
Then you may have to anchor the pic as character.

acknak beat me.

Select the picture and click the anchor button in the toolbar and select As character.
