Paragraph Automatic Underline Bug?
Hi,
I am using OO 3.3.0 on Windows XP 64 bit.
So tell me this isn't a bug. I got hit with an auto-underlined paragraph when I typed in 3 dashes and the enter key. So I go in and turn off that feature. Now how do I get rid of that annoying line under the paragraph? According to the Help doc, it's quite simple.
So I do the Format - Paragraph - Borders - set Line Style to None and click OK.
Right so the line under that paragraph disappears but now the paragraph above that one has magically acquired an underline.
So I go in and remove that line, but now presto chango the paragraph above that paragraph has now magically acquired an underline.
WTF is going on with Writer?
Selecting every paragraph in the document has no effect what so ever. You would think that a global change would do something instead of nothing.
So can someone here tell me how to really get rid of an automatic line in such a manner so that Writer doesn't magically create another one under the previous paragraph.

Re: Paragraph Automatic Underline BUG?
Hi Thomas,
thanks for the link but the instructions given do not work. Yes it gets rid of the line below the current paragraph but then a brand new line suddenly shows up below the paragraph immediately above the one from which the line was just deleted.
I even went in and modified the default paragraph style so specify no lines, no borders and then apply that style to the offending paragraph. The result: the line under that paragraph disappears but a new line appears below the preceding paragraph.
In short, Writer appears to by dysfunctional.

If you type three dashes and get a line across the page, immediately try / Edit / Undo or Ctrl Z and you get back to your three dashes.

Re: Paragraph Automatic Underline Bug?
Yes Rory Ctrl-Z does work but my problem is dealing with underlines that are older than other content and the fact that the prescribed method for removing said line causes a new line to appear under the preceding paragraph.
After migrating said line up through about 20 paragraphs, I've given up on trying to get rid of it.

Have you checked Merge with next paragraph? That option can have some odd side effects.

Re: Paragraph Automatic Underline Bug?
Hi,
Yes that is a good suggestion. By default that option was checked. Unchecking it doesn't seem to make any difference. On one try I selected the entire document, went into paragraphs and turned off borders and set line style to none. Clicked ok and every single paragraph wound up with a bottom line! Fortunately Ctrl-Z worked to undo that action.
I'm just going to chalk it up to Writer flakiness for now.
Note that I've experienced extreme stupidity on the part of other programs at times (Photoshop being particularly offensive). Typically a reboot of the PC and the problem vanishes. Note that during this exercise I have neither closed/reopened Writer or rebooted so I can't be certain whether this is a persistent problem or a transient one.

Last try: select the paragraphs and hit Ctrl+M.
