[Solved] Select multiple rows in a table?

Post by brynn »

Hi Friends,
This is probably one of those questions that you get all the time, but unfortunately, I have not been able to find the answer in the Help menu or the Guide.

I've created a text table (not a page layout in table mode), that has 6 columns and will eventually contain at least 100 rows and possibly 2 to 3 hundred. I've learned that I can select rows and columns, and then format the text for the whole table, or for selected rows or columns. But what if I need to select say 90 rows? Because the table is more than one page in length, it's difficult to place the mouse pointer (to produce the arrow) and then drag out 90 rows. So I was thinking maybe I could select the whole table (Ctrl + A), and then individually deselect 10 rows. But I can't figure out how to do that.

In Windows Explorer, you can do this using the Ctrl key. There's a graphics program that I use, where the Shift key allows this. But I can't figure out, and haven't found in documentation, how to do this in OO Writer. Is this possible? If not, how do I drag the arrow down past the end of the page? When I try it, and the mouse gets to the bottom of the screen, instead of scrolling down the page, it jumps back up to the top of the page. So I can never select more than what I see on the screen.

So my question -- how to select multiple rows, and less than all of them (Ctrl + A)? (Like 90 out of 100, e.g.) Version and OS shown in sig.

Thank you very much :D

Hhhm, no unfortunately, Shift + click does not allow me to even select those 2 rows, much less all in between :(

Thanks anyway, though :D

If your mouse pointer is just outside the left edge of the table, it should change to a row selection shape: solid black, right arrow. Then you can click to select single row, or drag to select a block of rows.

AFAIK you can't group-select individual rows, only a single continuous block.

Column selection is similar, only you work from the top of the table.

You may get unexpected results when reformatting if you have merged cells in your table.

Shift+click (or Ctrl+click) don't work in row selection mode (where the mouse cursor changes to the row arrow), but they do work when the cursor is in the table itself.

Row-select the first row you want, then hold Shift and press the down arrow key to select another row. Shift+PageDown will select a "page" worth of rows.

Scroll down to the last row you want to select; hold Shift and click in the first column of the last row you want to select. You should get all the rows selected from where you started down through the row you Shift+click in.

You might also want to try View > Web Layout: that dispenses with the page breaks interrupting your long table.

Click in the leftmost cell of the first row you want to select, then scroll down until the last row you want to select is visible. Hold down the SHIFT key and click in the rightmost cell of the last row.
