[Issue] Delete direct formatting on character styles

I often create dokuments i Writer, using styles (mainly paragraph and character styles). I send them out for others to edit. Sometimes the don't use styles, or even use a direct format on paragraph that uses a style. How do I get rid of all "dirt" (direct formatting on text supposed to be formatted with styles) without losing character styles?
Cleaning paragraph styles works with selecting all text > Format > Standard format. But when I do this, all use of character formatting disappears, including those characters I've used character styles on (return to Standard). Is this a bug, the way Writer works, or is there a workaround?
