Extra Spaces in Math

Post by rsherry8 »

Please consider the following sentence which I entered into OpenOffice:
This is how much I think you should save N+3, which should be followed.

When I do this, I enter the expression N+3 as an formula. As a result, OpenOffice is adding spaces before and after N+3. I would like to
turn that off. I tried using nospace{N+3} when entering the formula but that did not help. Is there a way to turn off the extra space
before and after the N+3? If so, how do you do it?

Thanks

Bob

The extra space comes from two different settings. The easiest to change is under Format > Styles & Formatting > Category: Frame Styles (third icon from left, above the styles list), Style: Formula; right-click > Modify > Wrap > Spacing > Left/Right: 0.

That change should apply to all formulas in the document.

The other setting is available only when the formula editor is active: Format > Spacing > Category: Borders > Left/Right.

That setting has to be changed separately for each individual formula.

On the same dialogue you have a button called "Default": a click there after changing the spacing will make the new setting predefined for new equations. This do not apply to old Math objects that need to be manually edited.
