Hangup and crash when altering documents

Post by munki »

I have 3.3 installed on my system which is Windows 7. Every time I open and try to add to or alter an existing document the program locks up and then crashes. I run the recovery when it comes up and the same thing happens again. This is happening with both writer and calc - I haven't tried the other programs. I have uninstalled open office and reinstalled it but the problem continues. I also have Microsoft office 2003 and have tried opening these documents in excel & word but they will not open - I am assuming the 3.3 version is not compatible with MS 2003. :knock:

I need one of 2 solutions 1. Fix the problem that is causing Open office to crash or 2. an answer as to how to open these documents in MS 2003.

I have urgent documenta to get out and I am stuck - I would really appreciate it if someone could solve my problem :O)
thank you

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Try to reset your OOo user profile. But during the welcome process, don't transfer your personal data (if you had 2.x), former configuration files might corrupt the new profile.

To download the latest version, use the mirrors: http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/#mirrors

Please add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.
