Converting .pwi files
Converting .pwi files
I need some help please! I am trying to convert and save my .pwi files from my smartphone (that I copied/transferred to my pc) so I am able to open and change the files on my pc and eventually transfer to my new android smartphone. I did use writer to open the file just once and from then on it gave me an error. I have tried to download the ABC Amber text converter as well. The only one I'm able to find is one for XP, the one that supports Vista seems to be unobtainable. Does anyone have any suggestions or fixes?

Re: Converting .pwi files
How is this .pwi thing related to OpenOffice.org?
Is there really no software for your particular electronic device, able to export user data in some usable file format?
Do you really expect that this particular software should handle each and every piece of data you throw at it?

Re: Converting .pwi files
The reason it applies to OpenOffice is that the user is a user of OO, and needs to convert another text file to OO. I am actually looking for the same thing. If you can't be constructive why do you have to comment? If I find the Answer, I will post it on the board.

Re: Converting .pwi files
The problem is that you can't blame OOo for not being able to handle an external format used on a mobile device (not really made for office documents management).
OOo (or even MS Office and any productivity suite) cannot take care of all the formats produced by all the applications developing the smartphone ecosystem. You're just experiencing the vendor lock-in policy. Same as MS Office file formats. But in latter case, users are so used to them that they are not aware of the trap until there is a problem with the file (wrecked file for example).

It's not that I'm blaming OO or anything of the kind. I'm simply asking if anyone has any other solutions or know what can possibly be done. I love what OO does and I have used it solely since I've discovered it as well as shared it with everyone I know!

Re: Converting .pwi files
Your best bet is to Google for an application to transform .pwi files into comma separated variable files (.csv). Alternately, in whatever computer language you know/feel like learning, write an application to transform .pwi files into .csv files; it should be reasonably easy.
Edit: Post 22 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... 965&page=3 gives a method. Isn't it a pity Google hasn't been invented! |

THANK YOU!! Yes, the work around seems to be a real pain but at least possible. Perhaps someone smart will come up with a more simplified way of doing it in a Google app some day.
I did do a Google search but apparently I did not research deep enough. Much appreciated!
