[Solved] MS Office 'Form' document equivalent

Post by GowerMick »

In MS Office, one can create a 'Form' as a Template, to be completed by the user. The user 'Tabs' between 'User Input' fields to enter data, but rest of form is locked. For example, this could be a form for a Family Tree document, where the user enters Father, Mother, Children etc

Is there an equivalent method on OpenOffice? The only forms I've come across are for extracting data from BASE Files. Perhaps OpenOffice uses another term, or am I being thick?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

Display the Form toolbar (and Forms design) and just do the same. You can insert them in a protected section if needed. Note that in OOo, you can't tab through the fields, you've to click them. See [Issue] Popup window when using input fields.

Please add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

Eh? I'm sorry, although quite familiar with MS Word, I'm a beginner when it comes to using OpenOffice beyond the basics, so bear with me.

Where is the Form Toolbar?
I've found 'Form Design', 'Form Navigation' and 'Form Controls' Toolbars ok, but not 'Form'.
How can I protect as Section?

Display the Form Controls, on its right, there is a button to display the Form Design.

To protect a section, see for example [Solved] Building a Form in Writer with Password Protection.

Sorry, I know you're trying to help but following your guide, doesn't give me what I want!

I want to create a template with a list of questions to be answered. The questions to be locked/protected so user can't change them.

On same template, I want to add fields so user can enter answers to the questions.

If I followed you correctly, after I protected the section, the user can't fill in the fields to answer the questions, as that is protected too!
