[Solved] No access to download site

Post by new1093 »

I've been trying to download OO for the last two days but have not been able to access the site. Any ideas?

The site moved to another platform last week but downloads were still available.

If no change, can you give us the error message?

Please add '[Solved]' at beginning of your first post title (edit button) if your issue has been fixed.

It's not working for me either.

This is the error:

The web page at http://download.openoffice.org/index.html might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown error.

By the way, I had to put what version I'm using in a signature to register for this site. Obviously I'm not using any, as I can't actually get in to download it. Ridiculous. I just copied and pasted the first on the list, just so I could register, just so I could ask why I can't download it. Very annoying.

It's not working for me, either. I get a "The connection has timed out" error in Firefox.

In terms of the signature issue, this forum is a user-to-user forum, aimed at helping users with OpenOffice.org. To do so, it is extremely helpful for the volunteers to know which version of OOo on which platform folks are using. Requiring it in the signature means that we don't have to ask each time someone forgets to mention it, which results in quicker answers for those who post questions. Sorry if it was an annoyance for you.

My error message was in Chrome. In IE, which I also tried as it wasn't working in Chrome, it just didn't do anything (helpful, no error message there).

Just annoyed because I was trying to quickly open an old document on a computer that doesn't have open office installed (the document is saved on an external drive). The document is password protected, so I can't open it with any other kind of viewer. Very frustrated, need this document!

It is also possible that a firewall on your computer is preventing the download.

It's the open office webpages that wouldn't open, never got near downloading it. (Have now though thanks to JohnV :-) )

The signature is also a way to prevent spam. It obliges the user to do an action that cannot be automated (by bots).

I tried to put in 'none because I can't download it' but it wouldn't take it.

Indeed, you have to put an OOo version and an OS version. It's not very user friendly but it's to defeat spammers. It's the price to pay to avoid spams and moderators losing their time getting rid of it...
