[Solved] OOo 2.3.0 Ubuntu Crashing (Gutsy)

Post by mjdenison »

Okay, this one has me stumped. I'm using OOo 2.3.0 on a Dell Latitude C610 w/256MB RAM running Ubuntu 7.1.0. Until this morning everything was going just swimmingly when suddenly OOo ceased to work. Here's the scenario: I open OOo Writer and attemp to format a page. I click on Format and then Page and the whole thing just hangs there. Eventually I get a crash message and my file is autosaved for recovery (nevermind that it's empty). Upon restarting the same scenario repeats itself. I've tried un/reinstalling the entire OOo suite and the situation continues. I really need to be able to use OOo for its ability to create Word97/2003-compatible files. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how do you fix it? Oh, one other thing; after un/reinstalling I also deleted the ~/.openoffice.org2 directory containing all my config files and they appear to have been successfully re-created. I have a paper due on Tuesday evening so a prompt response is cordially requested.

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Disregard the above, please. I found the error. For the benefit of anyone else who might encounter this problem I am including a link where I found my solution.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/131526

It seems as though certain GTK themes cause bugs in OOo.

Problem solved. Now on to write this paper.

Could you tell what was the fix ? have you downloaded an Ubuntu update or have you just got back to the Human theme ?
Perhaps the official version (2.3) hasn't that problem : [Ubuntu] Installing OOo on Debian and Co.
LibreOffice 25.2 on Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 7 Gigi) and 25.2 portable on Windows 11.
