[Solved] Filling formulas without formatting

Post by arugala »

Is it possible to fill a formula without applying the formatting of the source cell? Or at least an easy way to undo only the formatting change? I know a work around is to copy and paste formula only, I'm just surprised there isn't a keyboard shortcut or right-click option to enable fill without formatting...

It would appear that the only way is using the Paste Special dialog, as you've suggested. Or see Autofill Without Changing Format.

If this answered your question please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the title. You can select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Ah--thanks for the link. Missed that one during my search. Looks as if paste special (formula or format) is as elegant as it currently gets.

Hi,

You want to fill formula A1 to A10 :
  • Select the range beginning from A10 to A1 (A1 is active cell)
  • Press F2
  • Delete the last character ( ← backspace)
  • Enter the character you have deleted
  • Press Alt+Enter

Strange: if I used backspace the fill was a text version of the formula, not the solution. But if I selected and edited the formula within the parentheses, it worked fine. Intriguing work around, thanks.
