[Solved] Highlight Color

Post by EnigmaticCoder »

Hello,

I used to be able to highlight text in multiple colors, including yellow. Has that feature been removed? If not, how may I change the highlighter color?

Hi and welcome to the forum!

There is a dedicated button in the toolbar for that. What is the problem exactly, you don't have it?

The only problem I recall is about that: Highlighting in Writer.

In my version of Writer, there isn't a dedicated button for that. Or I don't see it. There used to be a dedicated button.

Check under View> Toolbars> Customize, if it does not show on the formatting tool bar.

Did you check to see if it might not be set as a "Visible button"? Click the arrow on the end of the toolbar and select "Visible buttons". The Highlighting button should be near the bottom of the list.

I apologize for not taking a screen shot earlier. I don't have the highlight fill color:

I checked to see if it's not a selected "visible button," and there is a highlight fill, but it doesn't allow me to choose a different color.

I'm using open office 3.2

EDIT: I click background color and nothing happens. However, if I click Font Color in the visible buttons menu, nothing happens either. But if font color is on the toolbar, I can change the font color. I'm thinking I just have to find a way to get background color on the toolbar. Any ideas how to do that?

Okay, I figured out how to get the background color button on the toolbar. However, it is not the same as highlight color... It's similar but I prefer changing the highlight color. Anyone have an idea how?

All is well. The problem is fixed.

If anyone else has this problem, here's what to do: Make room on your toolbar for the highlight button by removing another button that you don't need (View | Toolbars | Customize). Then, ensure that the highlight button is visible. On the button, there will be an arrow for more highlight options. There you can change the color.

I hadn't seen this happening in Windows, but did see it when I opened Writer in Ubuntu. The default icon size seems to be wet to "large" in Ubuntu, but set to "small" in Windows. The Apply Style, Font Name and Font Size boxes are also wider in Ubuntu than in Windows, limiting the number of icons that can be displayed on the toolbar in Ubuntu. Changing the icon size in Ubuntu to "small" will make room on the toolbar for more icons. The User Interface scaling could also be reduced slightly if necessary.

Changing the highlighting color permanently is still a problem in OO 4.0.1
I can change it using the method described, but: only for the current page. So, if I e.g. search for a text, the found text is highlighted in blue (hardly visible); then I change the HL-color to, say, yellow and it will do so on the first occurrence on the current page only, not on any subsequent pages.

Does anybody have an idea how to permanently change the HL-color ?

Thanks

Are you really using OOo 3.1.0? That version is very old and it may be a bug in that version which has now been fixed. It works for me in AOO 4.0.1.

I don't see this happening with AOO 4.0.1.

If I search for a word, click "Find All" to select all matches, then change the highlight color from the toolbar, then all occurrences through the whole document get the selected highlight color.

Is that what you're doing? If not, what steps are you using?

Also, be careful how you describe the problem: the highlighting that shows the selection is different from the highlighting applied as character formatting. If you're having trouble seeing the selection, you can change it to be darker.
