[Solved] ODT to CHM (or HTML)?

Post by mattfi »

Is it possible to convert ODT files to CHM (or, if not possible) to HTML, maybe even for more than one file with the help of a batch process in one go?

Thanks in advance for your replies,
Matthias

Probably, but OpenOffice is not the best program for HTML code generation.

Of course, I understand that, but I need to generate both paper and online help, and for the paper I want to have cross references, which are not possible in HTML. Hence, I have to convert the ODT subdocuments in a second step in order to generate the online help.

Any better idea?

Thanks in advance,
Matthias

Привет, Руслан :)

If I understand right, I have to do that in a Java environment. I am not a programmer, but a Technical Writer... Is there no ready tool to use directly under Windows available (of course, I wouldn't mind one producing directly a CHM file either...)?

Thanks for your help,
Matthias

You wrote first: batch convert ODT to HTML.

The CHM file is Compiled Windows HTML Help, but not "pure" HTML.

(Ruslan is not here... I just found his website.)

True. I assumed that I had to do an extra conversion from HTML to CHM in any case... I have adapted the title of my first mail in this sense.
However, ODT2CHM would be even better :) Have you any solution in this direction?

The CHM is a help format of Microsoft, maybe there are some COMMERCIAL softwares for creating them.
for example an older tip:

another informations from GOOGLE:

Hence, if I have compared the two threads and understood the linked pages properly, there is no way to get ODC into CHM or equivalent format directly. Correct?
